Insights
Xero, QuickBooks and FreeAgent all handle MTD, VAT and invoicing — but they suit different businesses. Here is how to pick the right one before you pay for the wrong plan.
A year of messy books feels overwhelming, but it's fixable. Here's how catch-up bookkeeping works, month by month — and what to do this week to start.

Contact NowMost UK small businesses pay a fixed monthly fee for bookkeeping, typically depending on transaction volume and whether VAT, payroll or year-end accounts are included. At 360 Bookkeepers every client gets one clear fixed price agreed up front — no hourly billing and no hidden charges. Get a free quote in under 2 minutes to see your exact price.
Legally you must keep adequate accounting records and file annual accounts with Companies House plus a CT600 corporation tax return with HMRC. A bookkeeper keeps your day-to-day records accurate and reconciled so year-end filings are painless — and so you always know your real profit, not a year-old guess.
A bookkeeper handles your day-to-day financial records — transactions, reconciliations, invoices, VAT and payroll. An accountant typically focuses on year-end accounts, tax planning and advisory. At 360 Bookkeepers our ACCA-trained team covers both: clean monthly books plus compliant year-end filings.
Yes. All our bookkeeping and VAT processes are fully Making Tax Digital (MTD) compatible, and we are ready for Making Tax Digital for Income Tax as it phases in from April 2026 — so your submissions stay compliant with HMRC requirements without you lifting a finger.
You must register for VAT when your taxable turnover exceeds £90,000 in any rolling 12-month period (or you expect it to in the next 30 days). Voluntary registration can also make sense for some businesses. We monitor your turnover, handle the registration, and file every MTD-compliant VAT return on time.
Yes — catch-up bookkeeping is one of our most popular services. We take a year (or more) of unreconciled transactions, bank statements and receipts and bring everything up to date, categorised and reconciled — then move you onto simple fixed-fee monthly bookkeeping.
We work primarily in Xero and QuickBooks Online, and also support FreeAgent and Sage. If you already use one of these, we fit around it; if not, we'll recommend the best fit for your business size and set it up for you.
We support businesses nationwide, working fully remotely through cloud software — with optional in-person meetings in London. Most clients never need to visit an office.
Most clients are onboarded within 5–10 working days once we have access to your bank feeds and existing records. Catch-up projects are quoted individually with a clear timeline.
Yes. Every package is a fixed monthly fee agreed before we start — covering your bookkeeping, software and support. No setup fees, no hourly billing, no surprise invoices, and you can cancel with 30 days' notice.
Yes. Your records live in HMRC-recognised cloud software (Xero, QuickBooks, FreeAgent or Sage) with bank-level encryption, and we only access your books through secure, permissioned logins. We are registered with the ICO and follow strict confidentiality procedures on every account.
We are a fully remote team serving clients UK-wide — there is no single office, and our bookkeepers and accountants work from across the UK. Everything is handled online through cloud software and video calls, which keeps our fees fixed and our response times fast.
Just connect your bank feeds and share your sales invoices and expense receipts — photos or forwards to our secure inbox work fine. We handle the categorising, reconciling and filing; if anything is missing, your dedicated accountant will nudge you.
From April 2026, sole traders and landlords earning over £50,000 must keep digital records and send quarterly updates to HMRC. The threshold drops to £30,000 in April 2027. We set up your MTD software and file every quarterly update and final declaration for you.
Tell us a little about your business — we’ll reply within one working day with clear next steps.
